PuchaKucha Invitation Process Workspace
About This Workspace Page
This page is to be used by the HATCH committee to first workout a fair and inclusive process for inviting NE artists to participate in PechaKucha Nights. Once we have a consensus on the process, it will be used as a roadmap.
Remo: I will outline the process as I have heard others talk about it, inserting my own opinions and bring up issue to be determine. Then I will ask the committee to discuss it, add to it and improve upon it. After a few revisions, we should be ready to adopt it as policy.
THIS SIDE: How it works.
THIS SIDE: Is reusable content.
Item #1: Select A PechaKucha Topic
Currently, it is the committee that suggests ideas. However, we do ask for suggestion in two ways:
- We ask on the website for visitors to suggest topics. I don’t think we ever received a suggestion via email yet.
- We ask at PKs for topics. This has produced a couple topic suggestions.
Do we need to do more?
We could reach out with a targeted email to people that have been in PKs and people that specifically ask to be on HATCH email list. This list is about 80 people. This is an inclusive idea that might be appreciated by our community. If the majority agrees, I am willing to set up and implement this process -remo
I think we agree that the HATCH committee should makes the final decision on topic choice with a majority vote.

If we choose send out an targeted email requesting Topic ideas, we will craft the email language here.
Currently there are two suggest on the table is:
Cooperative Art/Collaborative Art
I think this means artists where collaboration is the norm. The art is a product of a clearly collaborative effort, like Amy Baur & Brian Boldon and Lois Rhomberg & Armando Gutierrez G.
Artists that work in healthcare setting.
Item #2: Create List of Possible PK Participants
The Problem
I think it’s agreed that our committee should be the ones to ultimately choose the PK participants. But our committee does not know every artists in NE. We need to find a way to gather PK participate candidates.
Possible Solutions
- Normally, organizations send out a “Call for Artists.” That adds more administrative overhead. We could do this if someone is willing to take this on.
- A simpler solution is to expand our reach by asking an extended group of people to act as advisers. Once we have the topic, we send an email out to about 10-20 people, one for each art building in NE. For example, Jennifer Young would know what artists in her building would fit the topic. There are team captions for most of the buildings that would make good advisers. A list could be assembled of advisers. The job would be to identify and ask the appropriate people to perform this function. If we like this idea, who would like to help me make this list?

Item #3: Vetting the List
Another Problem
If we have a list of candidates larger than what we can accommodate, which is what we need to insure quality, we need a way of vetting.
We need to determine a process vetting?
One suggestion: At a HATCH committee meeting each member could list all the candidates in order of their preference, and the ranks could be integrated. To do this we would need websites to look view. This would be added administrative work. I’m willing to take it on at first if someone is willing to take it over the next time.

Item #4: Ideal Number of Participants?
There are a few questions that need consensus before we can determine the process of inviting participants.
- What is an idea final Number?
(Remo: in my opinion 9 is ideal)
What do others think? - To get close to the ideal number, how many should be invited initially?
(Remo: my opinion…one more than the ideal mumber, with two in reserve.)
What do others think? - How much time should we allow for invitees to decide?
(Remo: one week, then we ask the next on list)

Item #5: Other Issues to Deal With
There will be other issues I’m sure. I’ll put them here as they develop.
