Monthly Tasks Associated with the Newsletter

Each month during and just after the newsletter is published their are a few tasks that need to be conducted to complete the monthly cycle. Here I will list them with explaination on how to accomplish each task. I do this for myself and anyone that may need this info in the future.

Adjust the Number of Posts Displayed on the Home Page

The home page is set to display only the posts from the previous newsletter. If this months newsletter has more or less posts than the previous newsletter, the number of post displayed needs to be adjusted.

You will find it in the WordPress Dashboard under Pages in the Home Folder.

How To Update

  1. Edit the page in Elementor
  2. Click anyone of the posts. In the left panel you should see the Edit Post Block controller.
  3. Click Post Query to open it’s controls.
  4. Scroll down to the Max Post and change it to the number of post in your newsletter.
  5. Click Update.

Note to Self: This task may be automatable. I noticed this field can use a custom post.

Update the News Stories Archive Page

We use Post List Widget to make this task consistant, attractive and easy to update. It does , however, that a few minutes to update. I could look into making this automatic but thta would mean hiring a widget maker and not worth the cost.

You will find it in the WordPress Dashboard under Pages in the Home Folder.

How To Update

  1. Edit the page in Elementor
  2. Duplicate the section the contains last months Date including all the that month’s posts.
  3. Change the date to the current month.
  4. Click in anyone of the posts in the new month. In the left panel you should see the Edit Post List controller.
  5. Click Post Query to open it’s controls.
  6. In Include By Terms remove by clicking the x to the left of it’d name.
  7. Click in the empty box and choose the current month.
  8. Click Update.

Note: Make sure you sellect the section that contains the month and posts. When you mouseover the box just above the date, the 6 white dots should appear in the blue tab. Right click them and choose duplicate.

Add Arts Insights PDF to Arts Insights Archive Page

Each month a PDF of the lastest Arts insights is emailed to me. This needs to be added to the Arts Insight Archive page.

You will find it in the WordPress Dashboard under Pages in the Archive folder.

How To Add PDF

  1. Edit the page in Elementor
  2. Duplicate the latest date element.
  3. Change the link using this format:
    2021-01-10-January-Arts-Insights.pdf
  4. Change the PDF name to match the format.
  5. Upload it using WinSCP into:
    /public_html/wp-content/uploads/Arts-Insights/

Note to Self: This is not something I can have others do unless I find a way of managing uploads into designated folder.

This would be a useful project but would take some time.
