Step #1: Create Audio Clip

Assumption: You have recorded an audio clip of the PechaKucha event and have it on your computer.

To create audio clips:

  1. Open the full audio in Audacity.
  2. Cut the video up into 6.66 minute segments.
  3. Save them as .mp3 file.
  4. Use the presenters name: FirstLastname.mp3
  5. Save them on your desktop.

Note: There are many ways to edit audio into clips. There are even websites where you can cut up audio. Here I use Audacity, a free audio editing program.

Use whatever you know how to use.

Tip: The audio clip should be approximately 6 minutes and 4 seconds.

Step #2: Change Google Slides to PowerPoint

To change Google Slides to PowerPoint:

  1. Open the Edit view of your Google Slides presentation.
  2. Select File > Download > Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx)
  3. Locate the download and make sure it is on your desktop.

Note: Google Slides does not let you add audio to your PechaKucha presentations. PowerPoint does.

Tip: Keep the Google Slides open because you may need to get an image or two later.

Step #3: Check the PechaKucha in PowerPoint

To check the PechaKucha:

  1. Open the PechaKuch in PowerPoint
  2. Check to see if all the images made it through the translation.
  3. If not, go back to the Google Slides PechaKucha and download the missing image to your desktop.
  4. Then Insert them into the PowerPoint PechaKucha.

Tip: To download an image from a Google slides presentation is not straight forward. Do this:

  1. Right click the image and choose Save to Keep.
  2. Then right-click the image that appears and save it to your desktop.

Note: this is not your normal save operation.

Step #3: Set Up PechaKucha in PowerPoint

The translation into PowerPoint does not retain the timing setting, therefore you will need to set them up again.

To set up PechaKucha timing:

  1. Open the PechaKuch in PowerPoint
  2. If there is a blank slide #21, delete it (right-click delete)
  3. Under the Transitions tab, uncheck On Mouse Click and enter 00:20.00 in After:
  4. To the left of After:, click Apply To All

IMPORTANT: don’t forget to Apply To All

Step #4: Add Audio to PowerPoint PechaKucha

To add audio:

  1. Switch to the Insert tab.
  2. Select the first slide.
    (This sets the start place)
  3. Click Audio and select Audio on my PC from the drop-down menu.
  4. Click the Play in Background button.
  5. Remove the check mark from Loop until Stopped.

Caution: If you do not uncheck Loop until Stopped, the beginning of the audio might start again at end of the presentation.

Step #5: Export PechaKucha to Video

To export to video:

  1. Click the Export > Create a Video
  2. Click Use Recording Timing and Narrations
  3. Ignore Seconds spent on each slide
  4. Click the Create Video button

Note: This will take some time, about 3-6 minutes.
